We are a family business owned and farmed by
Julian & Susan Hughes Garbett.
We are farmers who believe in producing the very best food. We are dedicated to the local consumer and have been bottling milk from our Jerseys and Guernseys since 1983. Our dairy cows are free range. They graze throughout the year on grass and fodder crops. They also have access to straw yards where there is our own meadow rich hay. Susan looks after the cows, and milks them in the morning and again in the evening.
All of our Jerseys and Guernseys are known by name. We produce a range of fresh milk, double and single cream and golden farmhouse butter. ALL our dairy products are made using pasteurised milk on the farm. We do not homogenise we believe this unnecessary process can break down the natural protein found in milk products.
At Holmleigh Dairy we farm in a traditional Cotswold style, we grow barley which we roll for cattle feed and grow grass for grazing and hay. We DO NOT use blanket sprays of herbicide or pesticide. Julian prefers to rotate crops to prevent weeds and pests. As farmers we believe it is our duty to respect the land and our farm environment by working with nature and this also encourages a natural wildlife habitat.
The pace of life has greatly changed since 1912 when Julian’s grandfather delivered milk. He used a horse and cart to take churns of milk in to Gloucester. Once there the roundsmen ladled the milk into customers jugs.
Today we are indebted to our team of 5, who reliably deliver our milk whatever the weather. Fighting through snow, floods and obstacle course to deliver to your doorstep.
